Some time ago I had the displeasure of working with someone who was an outright bully. His tendencies to dominate, intimidate and even humiliate were so overt and well known. However, management did nothing to curb this guy’s daily tirade of other people’s shortcomings. By doing nothing this guy was allowed to run rough shod over whoever he chose, without being held to account. In effect, the bully had become the ‘elephant in the room;’ everyone knew he was there but no one could stop him in his tracks. The knowledge this guy held in his head was deemed to be more valuable than the feelings of those who had to work with him directly. Continue reading
What does self-confidence at work look like to you? Maybe you’ve got a mental image of someone who has an upright and open posture, makes eye contact, looks smart and in control, and is calm in heated situations. Imagine this description or something like it, was your ten out of ten in terms of your level of satisfaction, using a scale of 1-10 (1=low and 10=high) how would you rate your level of self-confidence right now? You know what it’s like you’ve got so much to do and a maximum of 168 hours each week to fit it all in. As you go from one demand to the next you get further away from your real priorities and end up feeling dissatisfied and frustrated You realise that you’ve got so much on the go that some things are only half done and others not done well at all.
- Create a vision board and display it where you can see it daily as a reminder of what you want to achieve. Some people keep an image of their board on their phone. Pinterest is great for creating vision boards.
